As the name of this website suggests, NorthTexas1911 is a site dedicated to pistols based on John Browning's timeless design. There are many other exceptional pistol designs, and I own, or have owned, most of them over the years. But most of them are only tools to me, while the 1911 seems more like an old friend.

I enjoy competitive shooting, target shooting, and I also carry a 1911 nearly every day. This site will certainly be a place where I discuss things like IDPA and USPSA matches, concealed carry issues, and so on.

But mostly, I see this site as being a place where I can document the guns I build and modify. I am not a professional pistolsmith, and it's unlikely that I ever will be. However, I enjoy working on 1911 pistols as much as shooting them, and find that nothing gives me quite the same thrill as shooting a pistol I have built myself.

There are many, many pistolsmiths that build excellent 1911s. I'll be adding links to the websites of some of my favorites here. I've had the great pleasure of meeting some of these gentlemen and seeing their work first hand. It's these men and the incredible craftsmanship they put into the guns they build that drives me to learn more about the 1911 and build better pistols. And one day, perhaps, someone will look upon a pistol I've built, and feel the same way.
